Security and privacy

Location data is the most sensitive thing we hold. We treat it that way.

Tallypath knows where you drove. That obliges us to be specific about what happens to it, rather than reassuring in general terms.

    Records are encrypted in transit and at rest. Nobody browses your data to improve a product.

  • Routes are private by default

    A recorded route appears on its trip screen and nowhere else — not in notifications, not in exports, unless you put it there.

  • Deletion means deletion

    Delete a route and the trip keeps its distance while the map data goes. Delete your account and the records go with it.

  • Visible whenever it is running

    You can see an indicator any time a trip is being recorded, and pause tracking for an afternoon or turn it off entirely.

Questions

The things people actually ask

Does automatic tracking drain my battery?

Tallypath uses your phone's motion sensors to decide when to wake up, rather than holding GPS open all day. In normal use it costs a few percent — comparable to a music app running in the background.

What if a drive is not detected?

Add it manually — it counts exactly the same as a detected trip. Automatic detection is best effort and depends on your phone's location and motion services being available, so Tallypath never promises it unconditionally, and tells you plainly when something is limiting it.

Can Tallypath see where I live?

Tallypath records the drives you let it record. Routes stay on their trip screen, never appear in notifications, and are left out of exports unless you deliberately include them. You can delete any route while keeping the trip's distance.

Does it work in both Canada and the United States?

Yes. Kilometres or miles, and dollars in either currency. Tallypath was built for both from the start rather than translated later.

Will it tell me what I can claim?

No, and deliberately so. Tallypath organises your records and does the arithmetic; what those records mean for your tax return is a question for your accountant. We will not pretend otherwise.

Can I get my data out?

Any time, on every plan, as ordinary files you own. There is no export fee and no lock-in — if you leave, you leave with everything.
